Chris Milk

Chris Milk is an American entrepreneur, director, and immersive artist. He is co-founder and CEO of Within, a company using immersive technologies to build products for transformative experiences. Within is behind Supernatural, the world’s first in-home, VR fitness, health and wellness service; as well as Wonderscope, the revolutionary AR app for kids, which uses educational immersive experiences to hone reading and language skills.

Milk’s early work in music videos and photography has expanded to include experimental genres and mediums. He places creative expression and human connection at the heart of immersive experiences while using new technologies as a canvas.

Milk was named to the "100 Most Creative People in Business" list by Fast Company twice; "100 Most Innovative People" by Wired magazine; "25 Most Powerful Digital Players in Los Angeles" by The Hollywood Reporter; "50 Most Creative People" by Advertising Age; and was given the “Media & Entertainment Leadership Award” by Variety Magazine.

As a music video director, Milk has worked with Kanye West, Arcade Fire, Beck, Jack White, U2, Johnny Cash, Green Day, Norah Jones, Pharrell, Gnarls Barkley, Audioslave, OK Go, Common, John Legend, The Chemical Brothers, John Mellencamp, Courtney Love, and Modest Mouse.

Milk's interactive installation artworks have been exhibited around the world, including New York’s Museum of Modern Art, Tate Modern, Barbican Centre in London, Cent Quatre in Paris, and the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing.

Milk has been honored with 2 Cannes Lions Grand Prixs, the D&AD Black Pencil, the Grand Clio, SXSW's 'Best of Show,' an MTV Moon Man, the UK MVA Innovation Award, Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Awards recognition, multiple Grammy nominations, and 12 Webby Awards.

Milk has used cross-media innovations to expose the beauty in our everyday experiences, whether they be physical or digital. He has partnered with Arcade Fire several times in order to create groundbreaking interactive experiences; he designed the first omni-directional facing binaural (3D sound) recording instrument; and he created the world's first live-action virtual reality film in collaboration with Beck.

Milk has presented at two TED conferences; once in 2015 on the power of virtual reality to advance humanity, and in 2016 on virtual reality as the last medium of storytelling.
